A young timid woman, Jessica attends a costume party and rediscovers the bare bones of true intimacy in ways she doesn't expect.
Something Like Intimacy is about the impact loneliness can have on someone and finding the strength to be vulnerable. The short film is intended to exercise the artistic and technical tone, style, and themes director Grecia Aguilar would like to explore with her directing career. It also puts an emphasis on portraying Latinx American characters who are not struggling, but rather going through a very common human experience. This production is an intimate collaboration with many Chicago-based Latinx American filmmakers who all have stories and passions to share with the world. It's the production's desire to help elevate this culture's creditability and exposure with a short film to bring to the global festival circuit.
We open in the middle of a Halloween party, amidst green laser lights for ambiance and a loud base for atmosphere. JESSICA, a timid young woman stands alone holding a man’s coat in her arms. She is waiting for Jamie, a wall street type who wears a suit. Jessica and Jamie quickly join a drinking game, resulting in Jamie getting hammered. Jessica, intrigued by the social life Jamie seems to be living, agrees to take him to his room. Unfortunately, things take a turn for Jessica when after a disappointing sex rendezvous, it is clear he is not who she thought he was. Defeated, Jessica is left alone again at the party but meets CATRINA, a very compassionate girl who helps her at her lowest point. Jessica, eventually goes in search of Jamie but finds him sloppily making out with a stranger. She is wrecked and wants nothing more than to leave the party. Jessica convinces Catrina to leave and a true friendship blossoms.

"Ultimately, I hope the message of the story transcends the film and inspires people to be vulnerable with themselves so that they might grow and be vulnerable with others."
